Types of Judicial Roles

High Court Judge

• High Court judges are appointed to the High Court of Justice, which is one of the senior courts in England and Wales. They preside over complex and high-value cases, both civil and criminal.

Circuit Judge

• Circuit judges are appointed to the Circuit Bench, which forms part of the county court system in England and Wales. They handle a wide range of civil and criminal cases and may also sit as judges in the Crown Court.

District Judge

Recorder

Deputy High Court Judge

• Deputy High Court judges are experienced barristers or solicitors who are appointed to sit as judges in the High Court on a temporary basis. They assist in handling the caseload and contribute to the administration of justice.

Employment Judge

• Employment judges are appointed to the Employment Tribunals and preside over cases related to employment law, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, and wage disputes.

Immigration Judge

• Immigration judges are appointed to the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber). They hear and decide cases related to immigration and asylum law.
